Getting the best results from your phobia treatment

Before your appointment

Prior to booking your appointment you may be asked to complete and return a brief medical history form and a short questionnaire to give us some background information about the problem that you want us to help you with.

The forms are an important part of the process. Please fill them in the best you can, if there are any questions you can't answer it's ok to leave them blank. Return the forms at least a couple of days before your appointment as it will save time at your appointment.

Please arrive on time

We aim to keep appointments on time as much as possible. Please arrive on time for your appointment so that we can make the best use of the time you have booked. If you are late we will still have to finish on time in order for the next person’s appointment to start on time. If you are running late please call or text us to let us know incase we can move things around.

Previous treatment history

We may or may not talk about previous treatments you have previously tried in the past. However the main focus of our work will be focused on the future and how you want to feel after you have overcome your problem.

A different approach

If you have experienced counseling, psychotherapy or similar treatments you'll probably that the way that we work tends to be very different to some other forms of treatment and although at first glance it may appear strange the structure and methods we use have proved to be highly effective and produces results quickly.

You may feel that you want to tell us everything about your problem, however because our methods are different to counseling or psychoanalysis that level of information is not required. If we require more detail we will ask you for more information.

Please don't be offended if we stop you from going into too much detail because the detail can take things in the wrong direction and uses up your valuable time and money. We want to work as effectively as possible in order to help you overcome your fears and phobias in less time so you can get your life back sooner.

Tell us how you feel

Rather than telling us what you think we want to hear please do be honest in your replies as this will not only make it easier for us to help you to overcome your problem it will also enable us to work more effectively, ultimately saving you time and money.

Answering your questions

If you have any questions we are happy to answer them, however if we are in the middle of doing something with you we may ask you to remember the question and ask it at a point later in the appointment so that we can remain focused on what we are doing. You decide how you want to feel

Because the issues that we work with are aspects of human behavior, the fact that people can choose how to think about things means that you can change. And in fact the question is not whether people can change the only thing in question is how quickly you will change. Remember that everyone is different some people overcome their problem in 2 to 3 appointments, some more and some people change in just one session.

Following your appointment

Following your appointment please take it easy. If you are going out we would suggest that you keep any alcohol consumption in moderation. Please keep any stimulants i.e. coffee etc to a minimum. If you are driving please make sure that you are fully alert and awake before getting in the car.

If we ask you to practice something between appointments please do it. The things that we ask you to do are for your benefit and will make it easier for you to overcome the problem. Just like sports people and performers practice the aim is that by doing the practice ahead of time your brain learns what to do so that when you are actually in the situation your brain can run it automatically and unconsciously. The more you do it the more you brain learns what to do.
